The Farm at High Shoals is a private estate used for weddings, parties, and many other types of events. Conveniently located between Atlanta and Athens, the 400-acre property offers privacy while remaining close in proximity to hotels and other area attractions.
The Farm at High Shoals is co-owned by Laurie and Scott Higginbotham, two siblings raised in Athens, Georgia. The large estate has served as their private residence and as an equine boarding facility since 2002.
For many years, the two generously offered their property to family and friends as a place to host weddings, reunions, and private parties. In fact, Scott celebrated his own wedding at the farm.
Laurie and Scott, both owners of the Farm at High Shoals.
In 2014, the brother-sister team hired local wedding planner Morgan Hall to turn their property into an official event facility. Morgan now serves as the head event coordinator and is the main point of contact for venue management.
The support from the Athens and Atlanta wedding communities has been overwhelmingly positive and humbling. To everyone who’s reached out—fellow wedding vendors, film production companies, newly engaged couples, and the general public—please know how much we really appreciate all the kindness and generosity you’ve expressed.
Spread over 400 acres, the Farm at High Shoals offers a multitude of photography backdrop options for your wedding. The property features the Villa, a luxurious period-Italian mansion and beautiful area for portraits, and the Stables, a 15,000 square foot reception barn and primary event space. Other notable areas include a working hillside vineyard, the Villa’s well-kept lower lawn, and a large private lake.
When it comes to weddings at the Farm at High Shoals, we tend to focus on creating highly exclusive, detailed, and one-of-a-kind events.
1. We only host one wedding per weekend.
The Farm at High Shoals might be a relatively new venue, but hosting only one wedding per weekend is a policy we plan on keeping.
Maybe you need some time to properly install custom cafe lights and band staging. Or perhaps it makes you feel better delivering all your hand-crafted decorations on the Thursday before wedding day. Our advice? Go ahead and drop the groom’s suit in the Stables Lounge at the rehearsal. (Just to be safe.)
We get it—you need a couple of days to set up your dream wedding—and we want to be flexible for the sake of quality.
2. We jump in and help along the way.
You will be stressed out at some point during your wedding preparation. It’s just part of the process!
The good news? Our facility is run by a wedding planner with several years of experience. Even if you don’t book the luxe package (with coordination included), we’ll be happy to offer guidance, supply timelines and layouts from previous events, and give you our honest opinion about setting up for your wedding.
3. We immaculately maintain our property.
We’re a little over-the-top with maintaining our grounds. (In a totally good way.) You will not be disappointed in the condition of our venue on your wedding day. Period.
4. We let you have vendor freedom. (Mostly.)
We don’t have in-house catering, and we don’t even require you use Morgan for coordinating. In fact, we love meeting new talented vendors! We only have a few restrictions:
You have to use a licensed catering company. (Sorry Aunt Ethel, you’ll have to attend as only a guest.)
Alcohol must be served by a licensed bartender.
You must use Oconee Events for large-item rentals like tents and staging.
5. We have so many options.
We have a mansion, barn, vineyard, lake, and oodles of green grassy flat space. We offer different wedding packages for different budgets and different sized guest lists. See a common thread? Lots of options.
6. Most importantly, we are excited to work with you!
Regardless of your budget, our goal is to provide world class service and an immaculate, out-of-the-box backdrop for your wedding day. If any of this sounds like your cup of tea, please don’t hesitate to schedule a tour and free consultation with our head coordinator.
